Chapter 20 teams: stages 20-10 to 20-80

8 stages · 59 teams

Chapter 20 swings between easy wins and real checks. 20-10 is a damage check where one player spent hours before getting through, while 20-20 went down on the first try for more than one person. 20-40 rewards placement, and moving a few units up into buff range did the job. Most players would rather copy a proven team than take on the 20-50 clown boss alone. 20-70 brings back Shellshy, the base of the Boldclaw line, as a second guardian in a water lane, and the 20-80 boss has a grass-headed zobo that can jump into your right lane. Levels are listed from about 348 to 396.

Waveflutter, Frostique, Rockwu and Tideon carry the chapter, and Cheerspring, the T3 cheerleader, now takes over the healing. Its dance heals, buffs attack and defence and gives a one-off shield of invincibility to a nearby ally in Danger, so the units that need it most should stand next to it. Trippet's spores are the other buff to place around. The T3 mantis matters on 20-10, but 20-60 has a version for players without one, with a warning that it may be tight at lower levels. On 20-80, a missing T2 mushroom was enough for one player's right lane to give way.

Stage 20-10

10 teams · Suggested level: 344–412

Notes on stage 20-10

20-10, listed at level 396, is a damage check. One player said they lost to the boss with the chicken in place of a T3 mantis because they didn't have enough damage, and another spent about three hours at level 348 before clearing it at 363 with dojos at 4-3-3-3-3.

The suggested setup for players without the T3 mantis is putting the chicken in front of Ignisnap, while watching your damage, since the boss can outlast you. Moving the whole lineup down a row sometimes helps. In Lineup 1 that cell is Stalkerix, leading lane 4 from the second row with Ignisnap and Flarevix behind it after a gap.

Notably, lane 3 is Electroar, Synthhog, Waveflutter and Zapantler, with the butterfly right in front of the deer. On paper, lane 1 is Cobbledon, Turtuff and Surgehoof. Note that lane 5 is Swaystroll, Frostique and Tideon. For this stage, lane 2 is Cheerspring in the third row and Rockwu at the back.

One player decided after this that they needed to get a T3 deer.

Cheerlet has been the swap for Cheerspring three times, and Blitzmane has twice gone in for Electroar. Zapooch or Voltling have stood in for Surgehoof, and Boldclaw for Swaystroll.

Stage 20-20

6 teams · Suggested level: 344–411

Notes on stage 20-20

20-20, at level 396, was a first-try clear for more than one player. One at level 360 with dojos at 4-3-3-3-3 was surprised it went through first time, and another asked if anyone even needed help with it.

Lineup 1 starts four lanes in the second row. Then there's lane 3, the long one: Stalkerix, Rockwu, Synthhog and Tideon, so Scouted and Fragile from the bat and Tideon's mist all land in front of the monkey's clones.

Then there's lane 5, a water lane with a lightning finish: Swaystroll, Ospisces and Zapantler. Ospisces pulls enemies together and stacks Weak in its whirlpool, and the deer's lance pierces through the pulled group. For this stage, lane 4 is Zapooch, Cheerspring and Surgehoof. Also, lane 2 is Firecoil, Frostique and Waveflutter.

Also, lane 1 is Capobeetle and Azurion in the fourth and fifth rows, a dash and a burn with no wall.

Cheerlet has twice replaced Firecoil. Goonbug has gone in for Capobeetle, and Serrabloom for Stalkerix, if you have the T3 mantis.

Stage 20-30

6 teams · Suggested level: 344–410

Notes on stage 20-30

20-30 (level 396) opens three lanes in the first row. On paper, lane 3 is Frugatoad, Trippet and Tideon, a damage dealer at the front with spores behind it. In this setup, lane 2 is Rockwu, Cheerspring and Waveflutter after a gap. In this setup, lane 4 is Electroar, then Flarevix and Ignisnap after a gap.

Lane 1 serves as a water and lightning lane from the second row: Frostique, Sealoon and Zapantler. Sealoon's ricocheting ball inflicts Weak, so the enemies Frostique slows hit back for less while the deer's lance pierces through them.

Lane 5 works as the back-row grass lane: Stalkerix, Pandaroot and Capobeetle. Pandaroot's bamboo keeps slowing and grows stronger the longer it stands, which suits a lane that starts late.

For another lineup, one player said Snowcub can be replaced by any water tank, and Capypapa wasn't really needed; they'd just forgotten to remove it. A level-363 player with dojos at 4-3-3-3-3 cleared it with a shared version.

Cactobloom or Swaystroll have replaced Sealoon, Frugagon has gone in for Frugatoad, and Cobbledon for Waveflutter.

Stage 20-40

6 teams · Suggested level: 344–410

Notes on stage 20-40

20-40, a level-396 stage, rewards placement. For reference, a level-363 player with dojos at 4-3-3-3-3 said they moved a few units up to get more buffs, and that did it.

The buffs here come from Cheerspring and Trippet. Cheerspring is in lane 2, third row, behind Cobbledon and Rockwu and ahead of Pandaroot, healing and boosting everything around it. Trippet is in lane 3, third row, behind Stalkerix and Synthhog and ahead of Frugatoad, speeding up attacks at a small HP cost.

Those two lanes start in the first row and carry the board. Look at lane 4: Swaystroll, Ignisnap and Waveflutter, so the butterfly is right behind the burn. Lane 1 holds Tideon and Zapantler in the third and fourth rows. Lane 5 holds Frostique and Flarevix in the third and fourth rows.

Note that lanes 1 and 5 are both without a guardian. If you're moving units up, those are the lanes where a row's difference matters most.

Kitjitsu has been the swap for Flarevix, which gives that lane a unit that can heal itself.

Stage 20-50

10 teams · Suggested level: 348–443

Notes on stage 20-50

20-50 is the clown boss at level 348, and players don't want to face it alone. One at level 389 said plainly they never wanted to deal with the clown boss in story on their own, and copied a proven lineup instead.

Lineup 1 puts a five-deep rock lane in the centre from the first row: Turtuff, Rockhog, Rattlecoil, Waveflutter and Humbleetle. Rockhog's mud slows, Rattlecoil's rapid waves can Stun, Humbleetle's dung slows again, and Waveflutter sits between Rattlecoil and Humbleetle, so both of their hits can carry Slow and Sleep.

Lane 4 contains Synthhog in the first row, then Rockwu, Cheerlet and Azurion. Lane 2 features Blitzmane, Kitjitsu and Tideon. Lane 1 consists of Voltling with Zapantler two rows behind.

In this lineup, lane 5 is just Frostique in the fourth row, so most of the board's defence sits in the other four lanes.

Zapooch has been swapped in for Blitzmane, Firecoil or Bubbit have gone in for Tideon, and Sparkdoe for Zapantler.

Stage 20-60

7 teams · Suggested level: 348–423

Notes on stage 20-60

20-60 (level 348) has a T3 mantis at the front of lane 1, and players said it can be done without one. One shared a version with slight adjustments for no T3 mantis and warned it might be tight at lower levels.

That's the cell. Serrabloom stands alone in lane 1, third row, striking continuously and inflicting Fragile. With nothing behind it, it's holding a lane by itself, which is why the T2 version makes it tight.

The rest of the board is deep. Layout-wise, lane 2 is Blitzmane, Firecoil, Humbleetle and Tideon. In the recorded lineup, lane 3 is Swaystroll, Capypapa, Frostique and Waveflutter. For reference, lane 4 is Frugagon, Cheerspring, Cluckeroo and Azurion, with two healers. On the grid, lane 5 is Turtuff and Rockwu.

Players also noted two things about T3s: the moth's support range expands at T3, and Pyropup's range widens and applies Weak. One said their T2 moth at least wasn't holding them back.

Stalkerix or Slobberlama have replaced Serrabloom. Capobeetle has gone in for Cluckeroo, and Zapantler for Humbleetle.

Stage 20-70

5 teams · Suggested level: 348–415

Notes on stage 20-70

20-70, at level 348, lists Shellshy, the base of the Boldclaw line, in the middle of a water lane. It stands in lane 5 between Swaystroll and Frostique, firing a wave of bubbles for area damage, and it's a second guardian behind the tank.

That lane works because of Swaystroll in front. The Ice Shield holds the line and charges up, Shellshy chips in, and Frostique's ice does the slowing.

Consider lane 3, the rock lane: Turtuff, Rockwu, Waveflutter and Humbleetle, with the butterfly between the monkey and the dung beetle. Here, lane 4 is Serrabloom, Cheerspring and Tideon, so Tideon's Fragile mist stacks with the mantis's own. For reference, lane 1 is Blitzmane, Synthhog and Zapantler. Grid-wise, lane 2 is Firecoil and Azurion in the third and fourth rows.

One player at level 363, dojos 4-3-3-3-3, got through it using a shared lineup.

Capypapa, Sealoon or Bubbit have all replaced Shellshy, and Snowcub or Cheerlet have gone in for Firecoil.

Stage 20-80

9 teams · Suggested level: 352–423

Notes on stage 20-80

20-80 is the chapter boss at level 352, and the problem enemy is the grass-headed zobo, which can jump into your right lane. One player said their lineup was the same as a shared one except they didn't have a T2 mushroom, and their right lane failed. A T3 deer was mentioned as the other way through.

In Lineup 1 the right lane is lane 5: Cobbledon, Rattlecoil and Humbleetle from the first row. Rattlecoil's rapid waves can Stun and Humbleetle's dung slows, which is what has to handle the zobo when it lands there.

Every lane starts in the first row. Down lane 2 it's Blitzmane, Firecoil, Rockwu and Tideon. Inside lane 3 sit Swaystroll, Capypapa, Frostique and Waveflutter. Lane 4 lines up Frugagon and Cheerspring, with Azurion two rows back. Lane 1 runs with Serrabloom alone.

Layout-wise, a level-362 player with dojos at 4-3-3-3-3 said their last two lanes were stronger than the boss.

Clangnaga, the T3 of Taptail, has replaced Rattlecoil, and its waves can pierce. Turtuff has gone in for Cobbledon, Stalkerix for Serrabloom, Zapantler for Tideon, Electroar for Capypapa, and Trippet for Firecoil.
